Rishabh Pant’s Future With Delhi Capitals In Doubt For IPL 2025

Rishabh Pant has left Delhi Capitals in uncertainty ahead of the IPL 2025 season, with a cryptic post on social media. Pant’s tweet on October 12, 2024, sparked speculation about his future, saying, “If go to the auction. will I be sold or not and for how much??”

His post came after a meeting with GMR Group co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi in Dubai, where the two discussed Pant’s retention and strategies for the upcoming season. Despite the meeting, the post left the team confused about Pant’s intentions.

Pant’s Return and Performance in IPL 2024

Pant made a remarkable return in IPL 2024 after missing the previous season due to a car accident in December 2022. He scored 446 runs in 13 matches with a strike rate of 155.4, including three fifties.

His performance earned him a recall to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, which India won under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Though Pant was not captain in IPL 2024 due to fitness concerns, he is expected to resume leadership for IPL 2025. Delhi Capitals narrowly missed the playoffs in IPL 2024, finishing 6th, tied on points with Royal Challengers Bangalore but with a lower net run rate.

Retention Dilemma and Coaching Changes

As IPL 2025 approaches, Pant’s current salary of Rs 16 crore may be reduced to Rs 14 crore if he is retained. The franchise is awaiting a final decision in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are also dealing with coaching changes after parting ways with head coach Ricky Ponting, who has now joined Punjab Kings. Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani is expected to join the coaching staff, but Sourav Ganguly’s involvement remains uncertain. With a mega auction set for next month, Pant’s future with Delhi Capitals remains unresolved.

With Rishabh Pant’s future hanging in the balance, Delhi Capitals are facing a critical decision ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. While Pant’s recent cryptic post has left the franchise perplexed, his impressive return in IPL 2024 and longstanding association with the team make him a vital asset.

However, financial considerations and uncertainties around his intentions complicate matters. As the team finalizes its retention strategy and reshapes its coaching staff, the next few days will be crucial in determining whether Pant will continue to lead Delhi Capitals or if the franchise will have to look for a new direction.
