Dream Is Very Much Alive To Play For India Again – Robin Uthappa

Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa is currently in the United Arab Emirates to feature in the upcoming IPL season. Uthappa will be representing the Rajasthan Royal this year in the IPL. The experienced batsman is eyeing a place in the Indian team on the back of a successful IPL.

The 34-year-old is currently in the best shape of his life as he been vigorously training for the last few months for the forthcoming IPL season. Uthappa was once considered the next great batsman to come out from Karanataka that had the potential of representing India in all formats for several years.

However, after the 2007 World T20, the dip in form of Uthappa resulted in him being omitted from the Indian side. It also resulted in Uthappa suffering from depression and it took a couple of years for him to come out of it.

A fitter and wiser Uthappa still believes that he can play for the Men in Blues. The positive person that is Uthappa is still hopeful that he can play international cricket again and bring laurels for his country. Answering a question from a fan in an audio message uploaded on Rajasthan Royals Twitter account, Uthappa talked about his future in international cricket.

 

“I certainly believe that if we have a great season in the IPL, wonderful things could happen to me and even bring me back into the reckoning for the Indian team,” Uthappa said.

“I am always positive as a human being and I look for silver linings even in negative situations. So my conviction is really strong that god willing, that I will be able to represent my country again and bring laurels to it. I hope that happens,” he added.

Uthappa further added, “Anyone who plays competitive cricket hopes to play for the country and bring laurels to the country. So the dream is very much alive.”

Meanwhile, Robin Uthappa thus far has represented India in 46 ODIs in which he has scored 934 runs at an average of 25.94. He has also played 13 T20Is in which he has scored 249 runs. Uthappa was an integral part of India’s 2007 World T20-winning team as well.

Furthermore, in his IPL career, Uthappa has played 177 games in which he has scored 4,411 runs at an average of 28.83 at a strike rate of 130.5 and also lifted the coveted IPL trophy twice with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
