Rohit Sharma, who led the Indian team, Virat Kohli, who finally bid goodbye to T20I cricket with the T20 World Cup title, and head coach Rahul Dravid cut a cake to celebrate the team’s glorious victory and a conclusion to the 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy in ITC Maurya in New Delhi on Thursday.
The Indian team, which clinched the ICC T20 World Cup, came down to Delhi on Thursday to a reception that was typical of fans eager to catch a glimpse of their heroes and see the cup.
The squad members and the support staff, their families, and the media that was accompanying them also got stranded in Barbados when Hurricane Beryl, which at that time was a category four hurricane, struck the island and closed Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown for three days.
The flight was organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah and departed on July 2 before arriving in Delhi at around 6:00 AM on Thursday morning. Board officials and members of the media contingent from the tournament were also on the flight.

India won the final by seven runs over South Africa, bringing an end to their 11-year wait for a world trophy. The Indian team performed well, where Heinrich Klaasen batted majestically, having 52 off 27 balls on the Proteas’ side, while the bowlers Hardik Pandya (3/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) restricted the opposing side to 169/8. Kohli, with his 76, put India in a competitive position at 176/7.
For the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award, Bumrah was awarded as he took 15 wickets while bowling at an economy rate of 4 in the event. The India team went in sets, from the airport to the ITC Maurya Hotel, where they lodged, before they met PM Narendra Modi.
