Rohit Sharma And Yashasvi Jaiswal Created History By Surpassing Sehwag-Jaffer’s 17-Year-Old Record In The IND vs WI 1st Test

The dynamic duo’s remarkable double-century partnership showcased their dominance over the West IndiesWest Indies bowling attack.

After a thrilling series between India and Australia in The Ashes, the Test cricket scene shifted to Dominica for a rather one-sided contest.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s newest opening pair in Tests, demonstrated their prowess by treating the West Indies bowlers like punching bags.

Both players scored centuries, further solidifying India’s stronghold on the match. At the end of Day 2, India had reached an impressive score of 312/2, surpassing the West Indies by 162 runs.

Rohit and Jaiswal’s magnificent partnership of 229 runs rewrote the history books

Their double-century stand surpassed the previous highest opening partnership for India against West Indies in Tests, which was 159 runs between Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer during the 2006 Gros Islet Test.

The legendary pair of Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan’s 153-run partnership in Mumbai in 1978, as well as a 136-run stand between Gavaskar and Anshuman Gaikwad in 1976, followed closely behind.

Not only did Rohit and Jaiswal create a partnership for the ages, but they also achieved individual milestones.

Jaiswal became the 17th Indian opener to score a Test century on debut, while Rohit earned his second away Test century.

Furthermore, their partnership brought up India’s first 100-run opening wicket partnership in 23 Test innings. This remarkable feat added to the significance of their performance.

Another noteworthy aspect of their innings was India’s first-innings lead without losing a wicket, a first in the history of Test cricket for the Indian team.

It highlighted the incredible composure and skill displayed by both batsmen. Although Rohit’s departure after reaching his 10th Test century broke the partnership, Jaiswal continued to shine.

He achieved a unique record by facing the most balls by an Indian debutant, showcasing his ability to adapt and switch gears throughout his innings.

Jaiswal’s century also marked a historic moment as he became the first Indian batsman in 21 years to score a century on debut outside Asia since Virender Sehwag’s remarkable 101 against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

Rohit’s century had its own significance, as it marked his second Test century away from home. This accomplishment solidified his status as one of India’s finest openers.

Surpassing the legendary Gavaskar and Sehwag, Rohit registered his 102nd fifty-plus score, second only to the great Sachin Tendulkar, who leads the pack with 120 such scores.

In summary, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made history during the first Test match against West Indies. Their partnership broke long-standing records and showcased their batting prowess.

Their achievements not only highlighted their individual brilliance but also contributed to India’s dominant position in the match.
