India‘s opening batsman Rohit Sharma was a hot topic in the later hours of the post-lunch session for the way he gave away his wicket after looking so firm at the crease. Rohit had played the new ball in the most brilliant manner despite losing Shubman Gill early on in the innings, the way the Mumbai batsman was batting it did look like he’s up for a long due overseas Test hundred.
Though just when things were looking to go in Rohit’s way, the batsman decided to take the charge on Nathan Lyon which resulted in him chipping it straight down the throat of the fielder at long-on. After the dismissal, Rohit faced tremendous backlash on social media with the question being raised on his intent and patience in the longer version of the game.

I actually have no regrets about playing that shot – Rohit Sharma
During the post-match virtual press conference. Rohit Sharma said he does not regret the shot he played against Nathan Lyon. Describing the shot, Rohit said he got where he wanted to but just couldn’t connect it as he wanted to which cost him his wicket.
“I reached where I wanted to reach, just that I did not connect with where I wanted to hit the ball. I was trying to pierce that over long-on and deep square-leg fielder, I just did not connect with the way I would have loved to. I actually liked what I did today, before coming here, we knew it would be a good pitch to bat, of course, there would be bounce and carry to the keeper, but this is what I enjoy,” Rohit said during the virtual press conference.
Further addressing, Rohit said there’s always a chance of making mistakes which you try to take the charge on to a bowler which is why he does regret playing that slog to Nathan Lyon. He credited Nathan Lyon for being a smart bowler as he bowled into him which is why he couldn’t get the required elevation with his bat.
“In doing that, there is a chance of making mistakes but you should be ready to accept that. It was a plan so I actually have no regrets about playing that shot, it is something I like to, Nathan Lyon is a smart bowler, he bowled into me so I was not able to get the elevation,” Rohit Sharma added.
