Rohit Sharma Explains The Importance Of Winning ICC Titles

Rohit Sharma

Winning the next two ICC Titles will be the focal point of the Indian cricket team under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. The BCCI announced Rohit as the skipper of the Indian ODI team on December 8. They also announced the Indian Test squad for the Test series against South Africa. Rohit was elevated to the position of vice-captain in the Test format as well, with Virat Kohli at the helm.

Talking to eminent sports journalist, Boria Majumdar, Rohit Sharma opened up on his vision moving forward as India’s white-ball skipper. In an episode of “Backstage With Boria” he spoke about how he would like the team to prepare for the next two ICC events.

Need To Keep An Eye On World Cups: Rohit Sharma

“Obviously, we have got a few World Cups coming up. We will keep an eye on that. But there are a lot of things that we need to do as a team to get that championship. We have the team, the players and the support now to go and get it. What we do prior to the World Cup is very important. When you hunt for that championship, there is so much pressure in terms of players’ performances and people’s expectations.”

Rohit added that he will try and take away some pressure from the players so that they can focus on the goal at hand.

“One thing that I would love to do is just take that pressure away from the boys at least. We can do that by doing the little things right. Making sure that we give them that security and freedom to go and express. That is the way to start and then we will see how things pan out in the next two or three months.”

The upcoming ODI series against South Africa will be Rohit’s first assignment as full-time ODI skipper. Previously he has won 18 out of 22 games as India’s stand-in skipper.
