Team India’s ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with his family, joining his parents and brother in prayers and festivities. According to Drik Panchang, the 2025 Ganesh Chaturthi was observed across India on Wednesday, August 27, commemorating the birth of Lord Ganesha.

The 10-day festival will conclude with Visarjan on September 6. Social media posts shared glimpses of Sharma’s celebrations with his family and extended relatives.

Rohit Sharma last played in IPL 2025, scoring 418 runs in 15 innings for Mumbai Indians at a strike rate of 149.28, making him the team’s second-highest run-scorer. MI’s campaign ended with a five-wicket loss to Punjab Kings. Sharma also announced his retirement from Test cricket and now plays only in ODIs.

He made the announcement ahead of the 2025–27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, sharing in an Instagram story on May 7:

“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”

Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, Shubman Gill was named India’s new Test captain. He began his tenure with a five-match away series in England, which concluded in a 2-2 draw.

Rohit Sharma last represented India in the 2025 Champions Trophy, leading the team to a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final to secure the ICC title. He scored 180 runs in five innings at an average of 36 during the tournament. The 38-year-old is expected to make his international comeback in October.

India will play a three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19 in Perth, with the second and third matches scheduled in Adelaide (October 23) and Sydney (October 25).
