After winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, the Indian cricket team landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at around 6:05 p.m. The team arrived from the Air India flight and received a warm welcome. Braving the early morning chill, fans lined the airport with placards and national flags, eagerly awaiting their players. The crowd went wild when Rohit Sharma, bearing the coveted T20 World Cup trophy, boarded his bus around 7:00 am
The trip home was particularly eventful as the team was unexpectedly delayed in Barbados after the final due to Cyclone Beryl. After careful planning including a special flight (with call sign AIC24WC) arranged by Air India, the team finally reached Delhi on Wednesday morning. Now their program was perfect: a grand reception awaited at the ITC Maurya Hotel in Chanakyapuri, complete with a celebratory cake in the colours of the Indian team.

Next on the agenda was a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11:00 am, where their achievements were widely acknowledged. Now, the team was set to head to Mumbai, where preparations were underway for a riotous celebration. The open parade bus, starting at 5:00 pm from the National Center for Performing Arts near Nariman Point, would travel along Marine Drive, ending at the iconic Wankhede Stadium
The celebrations continued with an event organized from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm to felicitate the players who won in Mumbai. The event echoed the celebrations in 2007 when MS Dhoni’s team won the first Twenty20 World Cup, highlighting the enduring importance of such a victory in the history of Indian cricket.
India’s victory in the final towards South Africa, sealed with a 7-run margin, underscored their resilience and resolution. The adventure from uncertainty in Barbados to triumph in Delhi and Mumbai symbolized no longer only a sporting fulfillment however a national celebration of excellence and perseverance.
