Rohit Sharma believes that the Chepauk Pitch was fair for both sides and wasn’t unplayable as tagged by several cricket experts. During the Test match, former England cricketers such as Micheal Vaughan and David Llyod openly scrutinised the pitch and called it a minefield. Rohit showed the way to others how to bat on the challenging track as he scored a brilliant 161 runs on the opening day of the Test.

The second Test match pitch offered assistance to spinners from day 1, unlike the opening encounter which was a flat wicket till day 3. Ahead of the third Test, Rohit Sharma has spoken about the pitch controversy and pointed out that India never complains about the 22 yards when they play overseas. Also, Rohit asserted that every team has the right to home advantage and the Indian team did just that.

Don’t know why there’s so much talk about the pitch- Rohit Sharma

The Indian opening batsman was surprised to see so many former cricketers taking a dig at the pitch. Rohit Sharma also stated that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should remove the home and away concept in Tests and make a rule about pitches as to how they should behave throughout the match.

“When we travel overseas no one thinks about us, so why should we think about them? The ICC should do one thing- they should remove the home and away concept and make a rule that the pitches should be of a certain manner. We never complain about the pitches that are dished out to us when we play overseas”, said Rohit Sharma in a virtual press conference.

“The pitch is the same for both teams. So I don’t know why there’s so much talk about the pitch. People say that the pitch shouldn’t be a certain type of way, but they have been like this in India for years. Every team plays to their strengths at home, and similarly, we do what our team prefers in India”, concluded Sharma.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is spot on about the fact that every team plays according to their strengths. When Indian tour overseas so England, South Africa and South Africa they play on surfaces which has more bounce and swing.

Similarly when any team tours India curators make spinning tracks as it the strength of the Indian side and a challenge for the opposition. Now, it will interesting to see how the Ahmedabad pitch plays in the third Test between India and England which will be played from February 24-28.
