Indian captain Rohit Sharma has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the second-highest six-hitter in One-Day International (ODI) cricket. During the second ODI against England in Cuttack, Rohit achieved this milestone by surpassing West Indies’ legendary opener Chris Gayle. Before the match, both batsmen were tied at 331 sixes.
However, Rohit moved ahead in the rankings when he launched a powerful six off Gus Atkinson over midwicket in the second over of India’s chase. With this achievement, he is now second only to Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, who remains at the top with 351 sixes in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma, A Six-Hitting Machine Across Formats
Rohit Sharma’s six-hitting prowess extends beyond ODIs. He holds the record for the most sixes across all international formats, with a staggering 624 maximums in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is combined. Additionally, he leads the six-hitting charts in T20 Internationals, having smashed 205 sixes in 151 innings.
Known for his elegant yet explosive batting style, Rohit has consistently dominated bowlers across the globe, making him one of the most feared batsmen in modern cricket. His ability to clear boundaries with ease has made him a key asset for India, especially in limited-overs cricket.
India’s Chase and Historic Milestone in Sight
India, chasing 305 in the second ODI, saw an early statement from Rohit with his record-breaking six. His consistency and aggressive batting approach have played a crucial role in India’s dominance in white-ball cricket. As the series progresses, Rohit has a strong chance of closing in on Afridi’s all-time ODI sixes record, further cementing his legacy as one of the most destructive batsmen in cricket history. If he continues at this rate, he could soon become the greatest six-hitter the ODI format has ever seen.
