Rohit Sharma Surpasses Virat Kohli In ODI Rankings For The First Time

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain and top-notch batsman, has been in exceptional form recently. In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, his outstanding batting performance has resulted in an improvement in his ICC ODI rankings.

Currently, Rohit holds the sixth position, surpassing Virat Kohli, who is currently ranked ninth. This is the first time Rohit has moved ahead of Kohli in the 50-over format. Discussing Rohit Sharma’s recent performances, he achieved a record-breaking century against Afghanistan.

In this remarkable inning, he scored 131 runs from 84 balls, including 16 fours and five massive sixes, creating a spectacle at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Rohit Sharma scored 86 runs against Pakistan at Motera on Saturday, October 14.

In the subsequent match against arch-rivals Pakistan, Rohit maintained his impressive form, contributing 86 runs at a strike rate of 136.50, which significantly contributed to a remarkable team victory.

Kohli, in contrast, has been in remarkable form with the bat. In the opening match of the current tournament against Australia, the No.3 batsman scored 85 runs, demonstrating excellent composure under pressure.

During the match, he partnered with KL Rahul for a substantial 165-run stand, a pivotal moment when the team was facing adversity, losing three wickets for only two runs while chasing a target of 200 at Chepauk.

Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult recognized for being consistent

Quinton de Kock, the South African opener and wicketkeeper-batter, had an impressive start to the tournament with two consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka and Australia. These back-to-back hundreds elevated him three places in the ODI rankings, now ranking him third.

On the other hand, prominent left-arm pacer Trent Boult is performing well in the World Cup, securing three wickets while maintaining excellent economy. Boult has also climbed one spot in the rankings, now trailing only the Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, who currently leads the charts.
