Ravichandran Ashwin, the team’s seasoned spinner, disclosed to the media following India’s Test series victory over Bangladesh on October 1 that captain Rohit Sharma had complete faith in his bowlers to perform well and wrest a favourable outcome from the situation despite having little time on their hands.

In the second match of the two-match series being played at Kanpur, team India triumphed over Bangladesh by seven wickets aided by a powerful bowling spell and a fifty by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Day 4 resumed with Bangladesh at 26/2 and having been bowled out for 146 runs, leaves India with a target of 95 runs to win.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each. India went aggressive from the word go in the second innings but lost two wickets in the very first over. Jaiswal however managed to score 51 runs before retiring out.

Without losing seven wickets, Virat Kohli along with Rishabh Pant, finally took India past the finishing line. In that match, Taijul Islam took one wicket for Bangladesh, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz took two. India has now won both of the two-match series 2-0.

Ravichandran Ashwin offered a glimpse at their methods:

In the post-match news conference that followed India’s victory over Bangladesh in the Test series, Ravichandran Ashwin provided insight into their tactics. Ashwin disclosed that, in spite of time constraints, captain Rohit Sharma trusted the bowling unit to produce a winning performance.

With the help of his bowlers, Rohit never wavered, and India won by seven wickets. Rohit’s proactive approach was commended by Ashwin, who mentioned his captain’s faith in the team’s ability to force a result. This audacious choice was crucial to India’s victory, demonstrating Rohit’s leadership and the group’s resiliency as a whole.

“Look, I think when you play first-class cricket more often, the fine tuning of the bowler or any cricketer is about hopping on the basics, and each of those bowlers who bowled alongside me has wicket-taking availability to hold the game and have the skills to have wicket-taking bowl, and Rohit trusted the bowlers to get the job done for the team,” Ravichandran Ashwin said in a post-match news conference.
