West Indies skipper Roston Chase remained optimistic despite his team’s 2-0 Test series loss to India, viewing the New Delhi match as an opportunity for growth and reflection.
Speaking after the seven-wicket defeat, Chase said the team’s batting effort, particularly their resilience in facing nearly 200 overs against a top-quality Indian bowling attack, was a positive sign. “This performance gives us something to build on,” Chase remarked, stressing that such experiences can serve as stepping stones toward improving consistency in the longer format.
The captain acknowledged that while India remains one of the toughest places to tour, the fight shown by his side was encouraging, especially considering the relative inexperience of several players in subcontinent conditions.
Focus on Consistency and Adaptability
Chase highlighted that one of the biggest challenges for the West Indies in Test cricket has been maintaining consistent performances across innings and series. He admitted that while individual flashes of brilliance were visible, sustaining pressure on strong teams like India requires both discipline and adaptability. “We have to keep putting together good first-innings totals and make our bowlers’ jobs easier,” he said.
The West Indies captain underlined that adapting to different playing conditions — especially on slow, turning pitches like those in India — is crucial if the team aims to compete more effectively on the global stage.
Chase also noted the importance of learning from past mistakes and ensuring that valuable lessons from tough tours translate into future success. He said the coaching group and senior players have been working hard to instill the right mindset in the dressing room, one centered on patience and resilience.
Encouraging Performances and the Road Ahead
While reflecting on the positives, Chase was full of praise for the emerging players who showed promise during the series. He singled out batters such as John Campbell and Shai Hope for their fighting centuries, which helped the team stay competitive for long stretches in the Delhi Test. The skipper also lauded all-rounder Justin Greaves for his growing confidence and maturity under pressure. “We are slowly finding the right balance between youth and experience,” Chase added, emphasizing that the next step for the side is to turn moments of potential into match-winning performances.
Looking ahead, he said the team will take the Delhi performance as motivation to improve, build on their strengths, and play with greater joy and belief in the upcoming assignments.
