The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council came out with the full schedule of the upcoming tournament on September 6 (Sunday). The prominent league will commence from September 19 in the UAE and will run until November 10. The tournament opener will see defending champions Mumbai Indians will lock horns with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings.
Meanwhile, initially, BCCI had planned to organise the tournament in March. However, due to COVID-19 outbreak, the organisers postponed the tournament. While there was a doubt over the future of IPL 2020, BCCI patiently waited for the picture to get clear. The window finally opened after ICC deferred the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Australia.
The organising committee took some time before they announced the full schedule of IPL 2020. They had to take care of a lot of aspects before finalising the schedule – the safety of players coming on top. The tournament will take place in a bio-secure bubble due to the novel coronavirus. Three stadiums – Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi will host all the game in the tournament.
The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore were one of the first teams to start preparing for IPL 2020. They will be desperate to end their barren run in the high-profile competition and lift their maiden trophy. The Royal Challengers begin their campaign against 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 21. The match will place at the Dubai International Stadium.
