The Australian cricket team’s dominance in ICC events continued as they defeated South Africa to win the 2023 T20 Women’s World Cup on Sunday, February 26 at Newlands, Cape Town. They won the final by nineteen runs to make it a hattrick of the T20 World Cup championships.
Batting first, Australia put on 156 runs on the board. Beth Mooney led the batting performance with an unbeaten 74 off 53 deliveries, including nine boundaries and a six. Meanwhile, Ashleigh Gardner scored 29 runs at a strike rate of 138.1. Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp took two wickets each in the innings for South Africa.

Australia march on. Their dominance in this era is beyond remarkable and it's hard to think of any other team that has managed to hold the whip handle in World Cups/the biggest stages so consistently. In any sport. #T20WorldCup #AUSvSA

Tripping them doesn’t work. You have to go for the kill because they will not give you a second chance. Even then, your killer blow might not be good enough.
This Australia women’s cricket team is something else. One of the greatest this game has seen! #T20WorldCup #SAvAus

It’s not that Australia outplayed the opponents in semis and the final – But you just can’t shake their basics on the big stage – especially their fielding . And that’s where the catch up needs to happen .. margins getting closer but Aus still lead the pack. 👏🏻 #t20worldcup2023

We have been longing for this moment since the last World Cup: Ashleigh Gardner, Australian all-rounder
Australian cricketer Ashleigh Gardner was awarded the Player of the Series award. She scored 110 runs at an average of 36.66 in the tournament. Gardner also took nine wickets at an average of 11.67 in five matches. Speaking about the T20 Championship title, she expressed that the team was longing for the moment since the last world cup. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Ashleigh Gardner said,
“We have been longing for this moment since the last World Cup. We weren’t in winning positions in certain phases, but we scrapped and got through. Probably the semifinal performance with the bat against India was the best of this tournament for me. We have won this tournament.”
“We spoke about wanting to do this, so really proud. Confidence in my bowling. I have bowled quite a bit even in the Big Bash. Thankfully it (form) has come into international cricket as well. Proud is probably as an understatement for the impact we have had globally as a team. Very fortunate to be part of this team and it is something later in life I am going to be super proud of,” she added.
