During the second Test against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday, January 3, India captain Rohit Sharma had a comical exchange with Shubman Gill. While batting together, Rohit humorously remarked to Gill that Kagiso Rabada is the only South African bowler they need to be cautious about.
The incident occurred in the seventh over of India’s first innings when Kagiso Rabada interrupted his run-up in the middle of an over. Shubman Gill wisely let a length ball outside off go by, earning appreciation from Rohit Sharma, who commented (as seen in a circulating video):
“Ek hi bowler hai aur koi jyada hai nahi (There is only one bowler and there are no more).”

Rohit Sharma’s counsel to Gill followed shortly after Kagiso Rabada took the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck, securing the initial breakthrough for South Africa. Intriguingly, both Rohit and Gill were later dismissed by left-arm pacer Nandre Burger, both caught by Marco Jansen at gully.
It’s worth mentioning that Rabada had dismissed Rohit in both innings of the first Test, in which South Africa emerged victorious by an inning and 32 runs, leading the two-match series 1-0.

Rohit Sharma’s India showcased a dominant performance in the first session of Day 1 in the second Test against South Africa. The Proteas were dismissed for just 55 runs in 23.2 overs, with Mohammed Siraj leading the bowling attack with a remarkable 6/15. Mukesh Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with two wickets each.
India, in reply, posted a total of 153 runs in 34.5 overs. Virat Kohli emerged as the top scorer with 46 runs off 59 balls, featuring one six and six boundaries. Rohit Sharma contributed 39 runs (50 balls), while Shubman Gill added 36 runs (55 balls).
South African bowlers Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi, and Kagiso Rabada claimed three wickets each. India faced a collapse, losing their final six wickets without adding any runs to the total.
