Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has predicted a 3-1 win for India in their upcoming Test series against England. The series marks the beginning of a new era in Indian Test cricket as seasoned veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both retired from the longest format.
With a fresh-looking batting line-up and Shubman Gill taking over the captaincy, the first Test begins Friday under high anticipation. Tendulkar expressed his confidence in the new leadership and team composition, telling ESPN Cricinfo, “I have settled for 3-1 to India.” His prediction reflects belief in the depth of talent emerging in the Indian squad despite the absence of two iconic figures.
Bumrah’s Crucial Role in India’s Bowling Attack
As India transitions into this new phase, Jasprit Bumrah stands out as the leader of the bowling unit. Widely regarded as India’s top pacer, Bumrah will be expected to lead the charge in English conditions. Tendulkar highlighted Bumrah’s importance, stating, “Bumrah, without any doubt, is going to be our strike bowler.”
He emphasized that the support Bumrah receives from the rest of the attack will be key. The experienced pace lineup features Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Shardul Thakur, and Nitesh Reddy, while all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav bolster the spin department. Tendulkar called this a “balanced attack” and remained hopeful that the team would deliver a strong performance across the five-Test series.
Workload Management and Bumrah’s Availability
Despite his significance, Bumrah’s participation in all five Tests is uncertain due to workload management protocols. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier stated that Bumrah would not play back-to-back Tests, citing previous back issues that surfaced during a match against Australia in Sydney. This careful approach aims to preserve Bumrah’s fitness for the long term.
The star pacer recently returned to competitive cricket with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL after missing key tournaments like the Champions Trophy. India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir also mentioned that the final decision regarding which Tests Bumrah will play is still pending. As India looks to reclaim dominance in Test cricket, much hinges on both Bumrah’s effectiveness and his availability throughout the series.
