Sachin Tendulkar is the latest former Indian cricketer to react to Indian players being racially abused in Sydney. The incident happened on day three and four of the Test matches when the Indian players were hurled abused back to back The Indian team management lodged a complaint on day three to which their Australian counterparts have formally apologised. Cricket Australia have also released a statement promising strict action against the incident. 

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar has said that sport is meant to unit and not divide us and any kind of racial abuse should not be tolerated.

Those who do not understand this have NO PLACE in a sporting arena. @ICC @BCCI @CricketAus #racism,” Tendulkar tweeted.

A lot of talking has been done on the matter as well. Former Indian cricketers have asked the BCCI to take strict action against the incident.

The Indian team management complained about the incident on Saturday after the end of the day’s play on day 3. Mohammed Siraj was hurled abuses just before the tea break as the game was halted for 10 to 12 minutes on Day4 as well. Siraj complained of racial attack from a section of the crowd, leading to the expulsion of some spectators and an unreserved apology from the host board.

Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security, said anyone who sought to vilify and/or harass had no place in Australian cricket. Cricket Australia has also formally apologised to their counterparts and ‘great friends’ the BCCI over the incident. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia have agreed that action needs to be taken against the offenders to send out a “strong message” that racism does not have a place in cricket, BCCI Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal had said on Sunday.
