Sai Sudharsan Smashes Sachin’s Record, Becomes Fastest Indian To Score 2000 T20 Runs

Sai Sudharsan has etched his name in Indian cricket history by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest Indian to score 2000 runs in T20 cricket. Representing Gujarat Titans, Sudharsan reached the milestone during their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

He scored 48 runs off just 23 balls, hitting nine boundaries before getting dismissed by Zeeshan Ansari. With this performance, he reached 2000 runs in just 54 innings. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar held the record with 59 innings. Among all players globally, Shaun Marsh still holds the top spot, having achieved the feat in only 53 innings. Others who reached 2000 runs in 58 innings include Brad Hodge, Marcus Trescothick, and Muhammad Waseem.

Match Details and Venue Stats

The match took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was Match 51 of the IPL 2025 season. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bowl first. This decision followed a pattern seen throughout the season, as no team has opted to bat first in the five matches played at this venue so far. Sunrisers Hyderabad were in a do-or-die situation, with elimination looming.

A loss in this match would make them the third team to exit the tournament, following Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. SRH captain Pat Cummins said, “We will have a bowl. You never really know what you will get. Sometimes it is better to bat at night. We won our first game at CSK’s venue. Hopefully, the trend continues here as well. If we win all our games, we still have a chance. We haven’t quite clicked as a team. In the last couple of games, we have done better. Same team.”

Team Changes and Strategy

Gujarat Titans had a strong start to the season, winning four consecutive matches and topping the points table. However, their form has dipped recently, including a heavy defeat against Rajasthan Royals. For this match, the Titans made one change to their playing XI—Gerald Coetzee replaced Karim Janat.

Captain Shubman Gill commented, “We would have bowled first as well. Looks like a good wicket. Last game here, we played against Mumbai, and we batted as well. The season has been pretty good for us. Nothing changes us for us. This is the time when a good team peaks. We are not really looking at the NRR. We are looking to see each game as it is. We have one change. Gerald comes in for Karim.”
