Sanath Jayasuriya Completes 2 Year Ban By ICC; Eligible To Participate In Cricket Activities

Sanath Jayasuriya

Former Sri Lankan opening batsmen Sanath Jayasuriya released a statement saying the two-year ban which was imposed on him by the International Cricket Council ICC has ended. The statement released by Jayasuriya stated that the terms of his agreed sanctions have been met and his period of ineligibility has also ended.

The cricketing authority had banned the former national cricketer from all forms of cricket after he admitted breaching two counts of the ICC Anti Corruption Code. In October 2018, the former Sri Lanka International was charged by the ICC for breaching the anti-corruption code.

The accusations relate to articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 of the ICC’s code of conduct. These relate to “failure or refusal to co-operate” with an ongoing ICC investigation into alleged match-fixing and “concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant”.

The ICC were investigating the activities conducted during Jayasuriya’s tenure as Sri Lanka’s chairman of selectors between August 2016 – August 2017.
