The Indian Premier League this season has seen some of the biggest in the history of the T20 League. Much of the credit should go to the short boundaries of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium where the batsmen have been hitting the bulk of the sixes this year. When we compare the boundary length of all three stadiums this year, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have particularly longer boundaries than Sharjah.

On an average, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium concedes 30 sixes per game this season compared to 12 of that of Dubai and  Abu Dhabi. Which is why the Sharjah ground also witnessed the highest successful chase in the history of the Indian Premier League as Rajasthan Royals chased down the mammoth total the other day against Kings XI Punjab.

Looking at the short boundaries and high scoring affairs, former India player Sanjay Manjrekar has put forward a rule change that can be implemented at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. As we all are aware of the fact that Sanjay Manjrekar wasn’t included in the list of commentators for this year’s IPL in the UAE. Which is why he’s been putting forward his views through the social media platform.

Sanjay Manjrekar suggests rule change for matches in Sharjah

Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted earlier today saying since we’re seeing so many high scoring affairs this season at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, a rule can be implemented where over the ropes can be considered a four, whereas out of the stadium can be considered a six.

“Over the ropes is 4. Outside the stadium is 6. Those are my new playing conditions for Sharjah. You guys okay with it? #Sharjah #MiniCricket,” he tweeted.

It’s quite understandable why Sanjay Manjrekar has said that since we want an even contest between bat and ball. But at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the batsmen are slightly at an advantage over the bowlers with regards to the short boundaries.

With just 18 games completed this season and a dozen more matches to be played at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium, we should expect a lot more high affairs at the short ground in this IPL 220.
