Sanju Samson being backed by formers for the number four spot

A quickfire innings by Sanju Samson in the ongoing series against South Africa A caught some attention. The youngster smashed an unbeaten 91* off just 48 deliveries. The knock included six boundaries and 7 huge sixes. This innings was highly appreciated by several former cricketers as it helped India to post a target of 205 in a rain-curtailed ODI game (20 overs).

Especially, Harbhajan Singh applauded Samson for his fantastic outing. He said why shouldn”t the management consider him for the number four position as he has a strong technique in the middle.

Additionally, Gautam Gambhir stood alongside Harbhajan on his statement. Gambhir said “On current form and his skills this Southern Star can bat even on Moon’s the South Pole!!! I wonder if they had space on Vikram to carry this marvel of a batsman.

The number four spot in the Indian limited-overs is one of the unsolved puzzles to date. While several options including the likes of Vijay Shankar, Ambati Rayudu were tried, results weren”t as fruitful as expected. The team management also tried to promote Kedar Jadhav and Dinesh Karthik to the spot but failed eventually.

India A makes it 4-1

India A won the series by a 4-1 margin against South Africa A. However, none of the games lasted for the entire 50 overs. The overcast conditions played a vital role in the series at Trivandrum.

The focus now shifts towards the two-match test series starting September 9. The first will be played at Trivandrum, while Mysore will host the second unofficial Test.

With Shreyas Iyer getting a good go in the West Indies series, do you think the management will be keen to include Samson for upcoming fixtures? A healthy middle order competition is on the cards and it will be interesting to see who grabs it at the earliest.
