Sanju Samson Explains Risky Shots In The 90s: “Aggression Suits My Style”

India’s wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson and captain Suryakumar Yadav put up an impressive 173-run partnership for the second wicket in the third T20I against Bangladesh. This partnership played a crucial role in helping India post a record T20I total of 297/6.

Samson stole the spotlight with a breathtaking performance, reaching his maiden T20I century in rapid time, becoming the second-fastest Indian to achieve this feat in T20 internationals. Even when approaching his century in the 90s, Samson didn’t hesitate to take risks and played with the same aggression he had shown throughout his innings.

After the match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video featuring a conversation between Samson and Yadav. In the chat, Samson reflected on his emotions after achieving this significant milestone. “I’m very happy, out of words, and emotional. I’m thankful to God for this moment,” Samson said.

He acknowledged that reaching the century had been a long and challenging process, but he stayed committed. “I just kept doing my work, believing in myself, and I’m glad you were there with me to celebrate it,” he added, addressing Yadav, who was at the non-striker’s end during his ton.

Yadav praised Samson’s incredible innings, calling it one of the best hundreds he had ever witnessed. Curious about Samson’s decision-making during critical moments, Yadav asked why Samson continued to play aggressively even while nearing his century. “You were on 96 or 97, and you took that risk of going down the ground. What was going through your mind?” Yadav asked.

Samson explained that the team atmosphere fostered by the captain and coach encouraged players to remain aggressive but humble. “The message is to go for it, be aggressive, and stay humble. That suits my character, so I kept going,” Samson said.

Samson also revealed that Yadav had advised him to be cautious while batting on 96. “Surya told me to take it easy, but I felt confident and wanted to go for the big shots,” Samson admitted. He credited both Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir for providing him with the clarity and confidence to play his natural game, leading to his exceptional performance.
