Sanju Samson Reveals The ‘Royal’ Idea Behind Sending Rahul Tewatia at Number 4

Rahul Tewatia played a match-winning cameo for the Rajasthan Royals in Sharjah as they tracked down 223 to pull off a record chase in match 9 of IPL 2020. They were 140 or 2 in 15 overs and scored 86 runs in the last 4.3 overs to win the game. The left-handed all-rounder played an innings for the ages in IPL history as records tumbled in the match.

Talking to Sanju Samson after the match, Rahul Tewatia spoke about how found his touch back in the 18th over of their chase after being missing everything in the first 8 to 10 balls he faced. He said after he hit one, he tried hitting one more followed by another one. He hit five sixes in five balls in the 18th over to Sheldon Cottrell to turn the game totally upside down.

Furthermore, during the conversation, Samson spoke about the idea behind sending Tewatia to bat at number four in a tense chase. He said that, after seeing the hitting prowess of Tewatia in one of the practice session, the Royals management decided to send hin in at number four as a pinch-hitter against KXIP.

Tewatia started his innings on a worse note scoring just 14 from his first 21 balls. He found his touch in the 18th over hitting five sixes of five balls to Cottrell to take his side home.

Earlier in the game, Rahul Tewatia proved costly with the ball. He went for 19 from just one over after which he was taken off from the attack. Tewatia had a game to remember with the ball against CSK. He took 3 for 37 of his four overs by bowling in the middle overs.

The RR management will be hoping that Tewatia keeps his form throughout the season. The Royals have now won two out of two games in the season so far and will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai on September 30.
