India batter Sanju Samson has a great fan following and his on-off relationship with the playing XI is one of the trending topics on social media during selection meetings and matches as well. Samson has been in and out of the Indian team ever since his comeback in 2019 and missed the chance to be in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Although he returned after the World Cup, he was on the bench during the T20I series against New Zealand. He was included in the playing XI for the first ODI against NZ but was again dropped for the 2nd game as well.

However, Samson’s name is always trending as the fans often blame the team management for his exclusion from the playing XI. Reacting to the support that Samson is enjoying, his childhood coach Biju George has said that he isn’t liking the Mallu crowd putting the player against BCCI.

“Political leaders in Kerala think cricket is another game of politics” – Biju George

“What I am not liking is how the mallu crowd is putting Sanju Samson against BCCI, and belittling Rishabh Pant. It is very wrong and not at all on. Political leaders in Kerala think cricket is another game of politics and are saying Sanju is victimised. No, not at all. I don’t believe so and it’s just that circumstances are not working in his favour. He is not being deliberately targeted. I don’t think anybody in the Indian cricketing system would be deliberately targeted. Somebody like a VVS Laxman is the coach, I don’t see that happening,” Biju George was quoted as saying by Cricketnext.

However, Sanju Samson has a huge fan base in Kerala and his fans always cheer for him on social media. Although Samson is unlikely to feature in the playing XI in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand as well and he isn’t part of the ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour and will return home from New Zealand as well.
