The left-arm spinner from Uttar Pradesh, Saurabh Kumar produced a magical spell as he picked up six wickets on the final day of the second unofficial Test match played at Sylhet International Cricket Ground on 9 December 2022.

Saurabh grabbed the wicket of Mahmdul Hasan Joy on the third evening. It was an exceptional bowling performance young Indian bowler getting the early wicket of Mominul Haque, and Shahadat Hossain. He then rattled the Bangladesh batting line-up dismissing Sumon Khan, Hasan Murad, and Ashiqur Zaman.

He ended with figures of 6 for 74 in 30 overs going at an economy rate of 2.46 runs per over. Saurabh Kumar did not pick any wickets during the first innings. India A won the match by an innings and 123 runs to win the unofficial Test series by 1-0. Kumar contributed vital 55 runs off 39 balls in the first innings for India A.

Saurabh Kumar likely to join India squad in Bangladesh – Reports

Saurabh Kumar was with the Indian squad but did not get a chance to play in the playing XI. He could be an ideal replacement for the Indian senior team ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on December 14, 2022.

The two Test matches are a part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle. Saurabh Kumar can bowl long spells and create an impact on India’s chances. India is currently at the number 4 spot and if they can whitewash Bangladesh by 2-0, then the finalists of the 2019/21 edition could make it into their second successive finals.

Saurabh Kumar plays for Uttar Pradesh in first-class Cricket. He has bowled in 54 matches ( 94 innings) with 237 wickets at an economy of 2.71 runs per over. With the pitches likely to help spinners, the left-arm spinner could make his debut in the first Test and put Bangladesh batters under immense pressure.

Saurabh Kumar would be looking to make a mark for India in 2 Test matches against Bangladesh and hope to bring India some success.
