The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has decided to initiate a disciplinary investigation following the discovery of liquor bottles in possession of its U-23 cricketers during their return journey from Chandigarh to Rajkot. This incident transpired on January 25, immediately after Saurashtra’s victory over Chandigarh in the CK Nayudu Trophy.
Reports from SCA sources reveal that a significant quantity of liquor was found in the cargo section of the aircraft scheduled for the cricketers’ travel. The authorities at the Chandigarh Airport promptly confiscated the liquor. It is noteworthy that the recovery of these bottles prompted the SCA to delve into the matter, aiming to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Saurashtra Cricket Association said: “There has been an alleged incident at Chandigarh that was brought to notice of Saurashtra Cricket Association. The alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable. Ethics/Disciplinary Committee & Apex Council of Saurashtra Cricket Association to make in-depth examine of the incident and shall take proper disciplinary action.”
The recovery of liquor from the U-23 cricketers raises questions about adherence to regulations and the code of conduct expected from players. Notably, the state government permits visitors to purchase alcohol through its authorized outlets.
The SCA’s decision to launch a disciplinary probe reflects its commitment to maintaining standards of professionalism and ethical conduct within the association, addressing any concerns arising from the incident. The investigation seeks to understand the context and potential implications of the cricketers’ possession of liquor and to take appropriate action in line with the association’s policies.
