South Africa suffered a major blow as their skipper Faf du Plessis has been ruled out for the remainder of the ODI and T20 series as he succumbed to a finger injury.
The skipper fractured his right index finger in the first ODI against India at Kingsmead, Durban. On doctors” consultation, it was found that it was a minor fracture and takes a time of 3-6 weeks to heal.
South Africa, who are already missing the services of AB de Villiers for the first three ODI”s, will also miss Faf du Plessis thus making their middle order fragile. Farhaan Beherdien has been named as the replacement and titans wicket keeper Heinrich Klassen earned his maiden ODI call-up as a reserve wicketkeeper.
Faf”s injury will have a burden on the opening batsmen Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla to bat for a long time and make sure not to expose the inexperienced middle order face the new ball early.
Faf du Plessis is expected to be fit for the first test match against Australia on March 1.
The skipper who scored his 9th century in the first ODI took Instagram to reveal the message by himself. His post read “Thanks for all the messages. Not a result we wanted in the first game but a lot of cricket left in the series. Gutted to be out injured for the rest of the series with a fractured finger. Looking forward to seeing some big performances from the men in green and gold.”
