SAvIND: Big Blow For South Africa ahead of ODI Series: Star Player Ruled out for first three ODI’s

AB Devillers the Southafrican batting stalwart will miss the first 3 ODIs versus India in the upcoming six games one-day series, as announced by the Cricket Southafrica(CSA) selectors.

The Board announced the same with the confirmation that ABD has a finger injury that is serious enough for him to miss the first half of the one day series against India.

AB Devillers sustained the finger injury during the third test versus India at the Wanderers ground in Johannesburg while batting. He didn”t score as many as he would”ve liked in Jo”burg and his importance to Southafrica”s fortunes was reaffirmed by the end result. India went on to win the Johannesburg Test Match.

But, AB made match changing contributions in the first two test matches in Cape Town & Centurion with his knocks that helped South Africa win the series 2-1.

The CSA media release stated, “De Villiers sustained the injury to his right index finger during the third Sunfoil Test match against India and will require up to two weeks to make a full recovery.The CSA medical team is hopeful De Villiers will recover in time for the fourth Pink ODI at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, February 10th. The selectors have opted not to name a replacement.”

Trimming the squad from the usual 15 to 14.

AB missing the first three games can be a substantial difference in the series fortunes but Southafrica will hope that whoever plays ahead of him now will be able to stand up.

The first match of the series takes place at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban on Thursday
