Sean Williams Penalised For Dissent During The 2024 ZIM Vs PAK 2nd ODI

Zimbabwe batter Sean Williams has received an official reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against Pakistan at Queen’s Park Oval, Bulawayo, on Tuesday, November 26. The 38-year-old was found guilty of showing dissent after being dismissed.

Pakistan leveled the three-match series 1-1 with a dominant 10-wicket win, following Zimbabwe’s 80-run victory (DLS method) in the first ODI at the same venue. Williams, a left-handed batter, was out for 31 off 39 balls in the 26th over, adjudged leg-before to Saim Ayub. Unhappy with the decision, he displayed his frustration.

An ICC statement confirmed that the Zimbabwe batter was found guilty of violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel. He breached Article 2.8, which pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”

In addition to the reprimand, Sean Williams received one demerit point on his disciplinary record, marking his first offense in 24 months. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Michael Gough and Forster Mutizwa, third umpire Iknow Chabi, and fourth umpire Langton Rusere.

The experienced Zimbabwe batter admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

Level 1 violations of the ICC Code of Conduct result in a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
