“Secretary Ke Saath Baithna Padega” – Rohit Sharma Discusses BCCI Guidelines With Agarkar At Champions Trophy Presser

During the press conference on Saturday, January 18, to announce the Champions Trophy squad, Team India captain Rohit Sharma was heard talking about BCCI’s updated player guidelines with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar.

Rohit informed Agarkar that he would need to wait until after the presser to discuss the rules with the BCCI secretary. This came after India’s 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the BCCI reportedly issuing a 10-point policy guideline for players.

The new regulations require players to participate in domestic cricket for national selection and impose restrictions on the presence of family members and personal staff during tours.

When asked about the guidelines at the press conference, Rohit, visibly annoyed, told a reporter he would address the matter only once it became official. The 37-year-old was also overheard talking about the updated policy with Agarkar.

“Mereko toh aur ek dedh ghanta baithna padega wapas abhi iske baad. Secretary ke saath mereko baithna padega thoda discuss karne ke liye. Yeh sab cheez, family wamily ka. Ab sab mereko bol rahe hai ki yaar.”

(“I will have to sit for another hour, hour and a half after this press conference. Will have to discuss about this family rule and other stuff with him. Everyone is asking me.”)

Media reports shared a 10-point BCCI policy, requiring players to participate in domestic cricket and limiting family visits on tours longer than 45 days to 14 days for partners and children under 18.

Rohit Sharma Confirms Participation in Mumbai’s 2024-25 Ranji Trophy Match

At the press conference, Indian Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma confirmed his participation in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Jammu & Kashmir, scheduled from January 23-26. When asked about his availability, Rohit responded:

“Yes, I will play.”

The Indian batter’s last Ranji Trophy appearance was in November 2015, against Uttar Pradesh. The right-hander had a tough Test tour of Australia, scoring just 31 runs in five innings.
