Virender Sehwag has never held back when it comes to sharing his opinion regarding cricketing matters. Recently, Sehwag spoke about how the team management should assess the role of MS Dhoni in the coming matches. Dhoni failed to rotate strike and score quick runs in the second T20 against New Zealand, even though India were chasing a huge total.
“Dhoni should realize his role in the team. He has to change the momentum early while chasing a strong total. He has to score from ball one and the team management should make him understand this point. The team management needs to tell him that he has to play free from the first ball. The management should assure him that even if he gets out, he should keep on playing attacking cricket,” Virender Sehwag Told To India TV in Exclusive Interview.
When asked whether it was Dhoni”s time to hang his boots, ” Team India needs MS Dhoni at the moment, even in T20 cricket. He will step down at the right time. He will never block the way for any young cricketer,” Viru said.
VVS Laxman had other thoughts, suggesting younger cricketers should replace Dhoni in the shorter format since they might have better big hitting capabilities. Former India cricketers Ajit Agarkar and Aakash Chopra too were critical of Dhoni”s average performance in Rajkot and said that the Indian team management needs to look beyond him in T20Is.
