Shadab Khan Ruled Out For 6 Weeks After Sustaining An Injury To The Thigh

Pakistan’s newly elected vice-captain Shadab Khan who was all set to lead the Pakistan side in the first test against New Zealand was unfortunately ruled out of action few days prior to the start of the test series. Now after the MRI reports, it is being said that Shadab Khan will be out of action for 6 weeks, which means he will be missing the remainder of the Test series against New Zealand and also the upcoming series against South Africa in Pakistan.

The leg spinner was diagnosed with high-grade full-thickness tear to the Rectus Femoris muscle on the left thigh. Shadab sustained the injury during Pakistan’s victory over New Zealand in the 3rd and final T20 last week. With Babar Azam already ruled out followed by Shadab Khan being injured, Pakistan named their wicket-keeper-batsman Mohammed Rizwan as the stand-in Test skipper for the New Zealand tests.

Pakistan’s team doctor Sohail Saleem confirmed Shadab Khan’s extent of the injury and confirmed that the injury is fresh and not a followup injury from the one he sustained during the limited-overs series against Zimbabwe. Saleem further added that Shadab will remain in New Zealand with the remainder of the squad as he undergoes rehabilitation with Pakistan’s medical team.

“The MRI reports have confirmed it is a fresh injury and not the one that had sidelined him from the Zimbabwe series last month,” Sohail Saleem, the Pakistan team doctor, said. “The latest injury will be treated conservatively and Shadab will undergo a six-week rehabilitation programme during which he will have weekly ultrasound scans. After the competition of the six-week period, the medical panel will access and evaluate the injury before making a call on Shadab’s return to competitive cricket.”
