Shai Hope’s One-Handed Stunner Ends Sai Sudharsan’s Stay On Day 5 In Delhi

On Day 5 of the second Test between India and West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Shai Hope produced a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Indian batter Sai Sudharsan. The dismissal occurred on the third ball of the 29th over in India’s second innings. Off-spinner Roston Chase bowled a flighted delivery on the off-stump, tempting Sudharsan to go for an expansive drive.

However, the ball spun sharply, took the outside edge of his bat, and flew towards first slip. Hope reacted swiftly, diving to his right and grabbing a spectacular one-handed catch that stunned the crowd. The young left-hander departed after scoring 39 runs off 76 balls, which included five boundaries. His wicket left India at 88/2 after 28.3 overs. At that stage, KL Rahul was unbeaten on 41 while Shubman Gill was on 1, as India needed only 32 more runs to secure a series win by 2-0.

India’s Dominance In The First Innings

India started the match in complete control after opting to bat first. The top order made full use of the batting conditions, piling up a massive total of 518/5 before declaring. Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his rich form with a superb 175, while captain Shubman Gill remained not out on 129, showcasing great composure.

The duo’s partnership ensured India gained a strong upper hand early in the contest. West Indies bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with none of them able to make a major breakthrough. India’s commanding total placed them in a comfortable position to dictate the rest of the match.

West Indies Fight Back Bravely In Second Innings

Despite being bowled out for just 248 in their first innings, the West Indies showed great resilience when asked to follow on. Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive figures of 5/82 had given India a big advantage, but the visitors fought back strongly in their second innings. John Campbell scored his maiden Test century, a well-composed 115 from 199 deliveries.

Shai Hope added another brilliant hundred, making 103 off 214 balls, showing both patience and technique. Justin Greaves’ unbeaten 50 further stabilized the innings as the West Indies managed to post 390 runs in 118.5 overs. Their determined effort set India a target of 121 runs to win. Although India lost Sudharsan to Hope’s stunning catch, they remained in control and on the verge of clinching the series 2-0.
