Shakib Al Hasan All Set To Play For Surrey In A County Championship Match Ahead Of The India Tour

Shakib Al Hasan has made himself available to play for Surrey in their upcoming County Championship match against Somerset, starting Monday, September 9 at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. Shakib opted to feature in this first-class match before Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against India which goes off later this month.

Surrey roped in Shakib after eight of their players are participating in the ongoing three-match Test series against Sri Lanka and are part of the IT20 side. Surrey’s Director of Men’s Cricket Alec Stewart was very pleased to have Shakib on board and discussed what he brings as a veteran player.

“When the opportunity to bring a player of the quality of Shakib to the Club came along it was an easy decision to make. We’ve been aware for a period of time that this fixture was likely to be one where we would have a significant number of players away on England duty and, in particular, missing two of our spinning all-rounders,” Stewart said.

“Shakib brings a wealth of experience and outstanding skill with bat and ball, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey.”

Shakib Al Hasan aims to make an impact

Shakib mentioned that he feels honored to play for Surrey, a team with 22 County Championship titles. They also secured victories in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the first-class tournament in England.

Shakib said, “Surrey is one of the most esteemed clubs globally, and I am excited to have the opportunity to represent them. I aim to make a significant impact and assist the team in reaching their season objectives.”

Recently, Shakib was a member of the team from Bangladesh that achieved an amazing victory over Pakistan in a Test series by 2-0 margin. Currently, Surrey hold the table’s leading position with 193 points derived from victories in seven matches out of 11 completed ones.
