Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been provided with an armed bodyguard after being alleged with death threats on the internet. The accused was arrested a day after Shakib participated in a Kali Pujo celebration in Kolkata.
The Bangladesh all-rounder has remained in headlines following his controversial visit to Kolkata for the traditional Hindu ceremony. The accused named Mohsin Talukdar was arrested by a joint team of the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and a team aided by police officers.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury has said that the nation’s apex board has opted to take immediate measures. Ace all-rounder Shakib is one of the most celebrated cricketers of Bangladesh.
Security Tightened For Shakib Al Hasan After Death Threat
“Expression of opinion is fine but not by threatening someone like this. I personally believe that anyone has the freedom to speak his heart. Anyone has the freedom to express his views but that does not mean someone will go against the law and threat someone like this” the BCB Chief Executive told News 18 in an interview.

He further said that the accused his misused the freedom of speech and expression that he has been awarded by the government and the law has the right to punish him.
“We all have liberty to express our opinion but not the way the man (accused) has expressed it. I felt that it is an attack on someone’s freedom of speech and expression and we have a law to deal with it,” the minister added.
Meanwhile, Shakib completed his one-year ban imposed on him by the ICC earlier this year in October. He is now allowed to take part in competitive cricket. Shakib missed the PSL as his name was not included n the player’s draft. He is also set to miss the BBL after none of the clubs were interested in roping in his services for the season. Shakib played last in BBL in the 2014-15 season with the Melbourne Renegades.
He said that the players might not trust him as they did before now that he has been involved in a match-fixing scandal. However, he wishes that things sort out soon and he is welcomed back into the side with open arms.
“It’s a difficult question (whether they will doubt me) because I am not sure what is going through anyone’s mind. They can doubt me or have no trust in me and I don’t disapprove it totally,” said Shakib.
