The Rajasthan Royals campaign in the 2020 IPL came to an end following their loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in their final match of the season. Despite rising up from the bottom despite a sluggish start to the season the Rajasthan Royals couldn’t qualify for the playoffs this season.

A lot of changing and chopping was noticed in the RR camp as their mentor Shane Warne has now come out saying Jos Buttler and Steve Smith should have been the openers for the side whereas Ben Stokes should’ve batted in the middle order.

This season we witnessed Rajasthan Royals try out as many as 5 opening batting options but none of them seemed to have got the hang of it. They initially started with Smith and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers with Robin Uthappa down the order but once Buttler returned to the side after completing his one week quarantine, he went on to replace Jaiswal at the top. Then followed by which Rajasthan then went on with Ben Stokes and Robin Uthappa as their openers in the latter half of the season.

RR Should’ve Opened With Buttler and Smith: Shane Warne

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, RR mentor Shane Warne said that the franchise in pink should have stuck to the opening combo of Jos Buttler and Steve Smith at the top whereas the like of Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Riyan Parag and Ben Stokes would follow up in the middle order.

The former Australia international then went on to add how England batsman Jos Buttler would enter any World XI as an opening batter which is why him opening the innings should’ve been a no brainer. According to Warne, Ben Stokes is more suited to bat in the middle order as we have seen him finish matches for England batting in the middle order where he’s the most destructive.
