Shane Watson Posts Emotional Video After Retiring From All Forms Of Cricket

Following Chennai Super Kings’ final match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Shane Watson notified the CSK team management that this was his last season for the franchise and won’t be returning next season. The opening batsmen played 11 matches CSK this season, scoring 299 runs which include two half-centuries. Watson joined the CSK franchise in 2018 after Royal Challengers Bangalore decided against retaining him in 2017.

Shane Watson has had an illustrious career in the IPL. After starting out for the Rajasthan Royals side in 2008, he went on to play eight seasons straight during which he won the Most Valuable Player title twice and was also the part of the Rajasthan Royals side in 2008. In the 2016 IPL auctions, Watson was then picked up by the Virat Kohli led RCB where he played a couple of seasons before getting picked up by CSK ahead of the 2018 season.

I Feel So Ridiculously Fortunate – Shane Watson

Watson announced his retirement following CSK’s exit from the 2020 IPL as for the first time since 2008 they failed to qualify for the playoffs. He in the video posted on his social media handle first started off by thanking his parents for the sacrifices they have made in making Watson the player he is today and also for providing him with all the opportunities throughout his career.

“This closing chapter is going to be so hard to top, but I am going to try. I truly am forever grateful to have lived this amazing dream. Now onto the next exciting one…#thankyou”.

“The first people I want to thank is my mum and dad, who did everything they could to make me realize my dream. My mum and dad sacrificed so much,” he said in the video.

In the end, Shane Watson finished off by saying that he’s been rather fortunate that he could prolong his career till the age of 39 with all the injuries he battled through with.

“To think that I am finishing up my playing days as a 39-years-old after all of the injury setbacks that I had along the way, I feel so ridiculously fortunate,” Shane concluded.
