Shardul Thakur scored his maiden Test fifty in just his second Test match for India. He was involved in a match-turning partnership along with Washington Sundar on day 3 at The Gabba against Australia. Shardul Thakur (67) joined Washington Sundar (62) with the Indians reeling at 186/6 after the fall of Pant for 23. The duo then added 123 off 217 to stage a memorable fightback and bringing the visitors back in the game in the process. Both the Indian batsmen frustrated the Australian bowlers with every run they scored in that partnership.

This happened after both he and Sundar took three wickets with the ball in the Australian first innings. With the bat, both Thakur and Sundar managed to make the Australian bowlers a lot of errors of which they took full advantage of. The inability not being able to break the partnership was very visible on their face as well.

Meanwhile, in the virtual press conference, Shardul Thakur said that the Australian fielders were trying to get under his skin however, it did not deter him from scoring runs.

“Australian players were trying to have a conversation with me, but I was not replying. I just replied once or twice, there were a lot of normal questions, even if they were trying to sledge me, I did not hear it, I just played on,” Thakur said during the post-match virtual press conference.

Both Of Us Have The Temperament To Succeed At International Level: Shardul Thakur

He further spoke on his partnership with Washington Sundar which helped India get back into the game. He said that both of them have the batting ability to succeed at the international level and that they proved it in this partnership.

“Both of us have that temperament to succeed at this level, honestly we were not looking at the scoreboard, the idea was to spend some time in the middle. We knew their bowlers were tiring, it was a matter of one hour, if we hung in there for one more hour then probably, we would be on the top as the bowlers were already tiring. Both of us were communicating really well in the middle, if someone was losing control or trying a rash shot, we were immediately communicating that let’s get back to normal,” Thakur said.

In their second innings, Australia started watchfully as well as they scored 21 in six overs with David Warner unbeaten on 20, bringing up his highest score of the series. A 197 overs are expected to be bowled in the final two-day play at The Gabba if the weather does not interfere in the day’s proceedings.
