Team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s bizarre run-out proved to be crucial for Australia as they managed to win the 2023 T20 World Cup semi-final by five runs at Newlands in Cape Town. Australian wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy decoded the dismissal and shared her thoughts on it, recently.

Harmanpreet Kaur looked all set to take India home. However, she was run-out right after completing her fifty. The Indian skipper’s bat was stuck in the ground while completing the second run in the fifteenth over. Wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy whipped off the bails to send the batter back into the hut. Team India was pushed to the backfoot after Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal. They eventually failed to chase down the target.

Speaking to ABC Sport about the run-out, Alyssa Healy said,

“It’s kind of funny actually. Belinda Clarke messaged me and said, well done for taking the bails. And it’s quite an interesting one because I actually don’t take the bail a lot in that sort of scenario. I think it’s a waste of time and I’ve got to put them back on.”

“So, it’s annoying. But for some reason, I felt the need to take the bails off and it was like a bizarre moment where I looked at the umpire and said, I think that’s out. And I think Shooter at the point was like. I also think that it’s out,” she added.

Harmanpreet can say all she likes that it was so unlucky: Alyssa Healy

Australian wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy further expressed that Harmanpreet Kaur can call the dismissal unlucky, but she took the second run lightly. She added that the Indian skipper could have made it to the crease if she has put in the effort. Alyssa Healy said,

“So, just a bizarre play. Harmanpreet can say all she likes that it was so unlucky. At the end of the day, she cruised back and probably could’ve been passed the crease, an extra two meters if she genuinely put in the effort. So, we’ll take it.”

Harmanpreet Kaur’s participation in the semi-final against Australia was under doubt due to her health. However, she turned up for the game and slammed a fifty. The Indian skipper scored 52 runs off 34 deliveries with six boundaries and a six. Unfortunately, she couldn’t take the team home. Australia will take on South Africa in the final of the 2023 T20 World Cup on Sunday, February 26 at Newlands in Cape Town.
