Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), receiving an enthusiastic reception from fans. Representing the Karnali Yaks, Dhawan expressed excitement about his debut visit to Nepal and his opportunity to play alongside local and national players. “I’m thrilled to be here for the NPL. Along with cricket, I’m eager to explore Nepal’s iconic landmarks like the Pashupatinath Temple and Mount Everest,” Dhawan shared during a media interaction.

Transition to NPL After Retirement

Earlier this year, Dhawan retired from domestic and international cricket, marking the end of a celebrated career. He joined the Karnali Yaks after being released by Punjab Kings ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction. In IPL 2024, Dhawan played five matches for Punjab Kings, scoring 152 runs with a strike rate of 125.62 before an injury ended his season. The 38-year-old announced his retirement through an emotional Instagram post, closing a chapter on his illustrious journey in cricket.

A Remarkable Career Across Formats

Known for his consistent performances, Dhawan excelled in all formats of the game, particularly in ODIs, where he amassed 6,793 runs in 167 matches at an average of 44.1, including 17 centuries and 39 fifties. In Test cricket, he scored 2,315 runs in 34 matches, with seven centuries and five half-centuries.

In T20Is, he played 68 matches and contributed 1,759 runs with 11 fifties. Domestically, Dhawan showcased his prowess in 122 First-Class matches, scoring 8,499 runs at an average of 44.26, including 25 centuries. His ability to deliver impactful performances cemented his reputation as one of India’s finest openers.
