Shreyas Iyer Considers Exiting KKR After Major Offer From Rival Franchise

With the IPL 2025 season nearing, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer is considering a shift, following a compelling offer from a competing team. According to ESPNCricinfo, Iyer’s potential departure is causing quite a buzz, as the IPL retention deadline approaches.

Since joining KKR in 2022, Iyer has been a significant figure, leading the team to its IPL 2024 championship victory. His leadership and reliable performance with the bat, scoring 351 runs in 14 matches with two half-centuries, have made him a core player for KKR.

Stellar Return in IPL 2024 After Setbacks

Iyer’s journey with KKR began in IPL 2022, although his first season with the franchise ended in disappointment as the team exited early. In IPL 2023, Iyer missed the season due to a back injury, leading to Nitish Rana stepping in as captain. Unfortunately, KKR faced another early elimination.

However, Iyer’s comeback in IPL 2024 proved transformative, as he led KKR to dominance and secured their first title in years, showcasing his impact on the team. The recent offer from a rival franchise is, therefore, significant, leaving Iyer with a major decision regarding his future.

Other Stars Set for IPL 2025 Auction

Alongside Iyer, other key players are also weighing their options for IPL 2025. Reports indicate that KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant might enter the auction, adding to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming season. Delhi Capitals is reportedly keen to retain Pant but without offering him the captaincy, while Lucknow Super Giants are negotiating with Rahul.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has expressed interest in both players. All franchises must finalize their retentions by October 31, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to hold the mega auction in late November, although exact dates remain unconfirmed. The stage is set for an exciting reshuffling of talent as teams prepare for IPL 2025.
