Shreyas Iyer was in the form of his life on the New Zealand tour early this year. The 25-year-old struck his maiden ODI century in the break out tour of New Zealand. Iyer was the highest run-scorer in the series with scores of 103, 52 and 62. He was all set to captain Delhi Capitals in this year’s Indian Premier League. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, IPL has been postponed as the lockdown has been imposed in India.

The new number 4 of India is looking forward to stepping on the Cricket field again. Iyer believes that once Cricket returns again it will be a huge positive. The Mumbai lad, however, pointed out that it would not be easy for Cricketers and they would require practice session to be at their best.

“Yes, we will need a few net sessions for sure to get the timing back and also to get the muscle memory working. Will be holding the bat after a while also to have players standing around as you face 140 kph, it will not be easy to come back into that zone as a batsman. I will need a few training sessions as also the mental memory to settle down completely,” Iyer said to IANS.

The right-handed batsman stated that it is not going to be easy for Cricketers but as professional they will have to adjust. Shreyas Iyer also mentioned the fact that Cricket is a religion in India and people would be happy to see it return.

“It is not going to be easy but we are professionals and we have played so many years on this stage, so it will not take us very long. I would be very keen to go and play because that is what I am waiting for”.

“You do realise Cricket is a religion in this country and if we play again it is there for people to view on television. It will be a huge positive as things will start moving towards normal and people will also be entertained”, Iyer said.
