Shubman Gill scored his maiden Test fifty in his second Test at the SCG as he shared a 70-run stand with Rohit Sharma on the second day of the third Test match. India ended the day on 96 for 2 and are on a fairly strong position in the Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja who picked up four wickets in the first innings, praised the youngster saying that he has a sound technique and a good temperament to go along with it. Speaking after the day’s play, Jadeja lauded how Shubman Gill shaped up playing the Australian pacers when it was India’s time to bat.

Ravindra Jadeja Lauds Shubman Gill’s Knock

“I think, he (Shubman Gill) is technically very sound. He has the temperament to play long innings. It’s good that he got a start today, the 70-run opening partnership with Rohit. It’s a good sign for India and hope he comes good in the second innings as well,” Jadeja said at the virtual press conference.

The left-arm spinner also spoke on the second day’s wicket at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He said that there was not much turn on the wicket which is why he focused on putting the ball at the right areas. Ravindra Jadeja returned with a four-wicket haul and also contributed to Steve Smith’s run out with a direct throw with one stump to shy at.

Wicket Was Very Slow: Ravindra Jadeja

“Wicket was very slow and I wasn’t getting any turn from the wicket. So it was important to pitch the ball at one place every time. I wanted to bowl in good areas as our fast bowlers were doing the same. My plan was to not leak runs and create pressure on the batsman and for Smith, my approach was to not give him some easy runs,” Jadeja said.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill brought up his maiden Test fifty in just the third innings of his Test career. He scored 45 and 35 * in his first Test in Melbourne. He also took India to a win in the Test match as well.

He hit as many as eight boundaries during his knock and played with good intent and positive footwork. Gill’s innings was cut short by his KKR teammate Pat Cummins who looked the best of all the Australian bowlers.
