This dismissal is another blow to his resume. Supporters had hoped that the Test series against Bangladesh would turn around, but Gill’s early exit has raised more questions about his recent troubles.

Mahmud celebrated his second wicket in style, leaving India reeling at 97/4 after 26 overs at lunch. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained undefeated on 37, shouldering the task of keeping the innings steady. Bangladesh’s bowlers sustained pressure, with Mahmud taking three crucial wickets.
Gill’s soft dismissal heightened India’s anxieties, especially with top-order batters leaving early. The onus is now on Jaiswal to form a critical partnership with KL Rahul after lunch. India’s chances of recovery are dependent on this duo’s ability to restore control and create a significant total.
