Shubman Gill Back From Injury Ahead Of NZ ODIs
Shubman Gill will make his comeback from a toe injury in the upcoming New Zealand ODIs, an injury he sustained during India’s home T20I series against South Africa in December 2025. Earlier, he had also missed ODIs against South Africa due to a neck injury he suffered during the Test series.
While KL Rahul had captained the side in the South Africa ODIs, Gill will resume his role as captain against New Zealand. He recently appeared in a Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 match for Punjab against Goa in Jaipur on Tuesday, January 6, scoring 11 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed.
Gill had been left out of the T20I series against New Zealand and the 2026 T20 World Cup, despite serving as vice-captain, following a string of underwhelming performances. This ODI series presents him with a chance to make a strong return and contribute significantly with the bat.
The series is scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 11, with the opening match set to take place in Vadodara.
