Indian Test captain Shubman Gill shared a humorous post featuring teammates Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the second Test against England. The Indian team is currently touring England for a five-match Test series, with the second match set to begin on Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Gill took to Instagram to share a photo in which he, Arshdeep, and Siraj appear in a cut-out poster modeled after the British period crime drama Peaky Blinders. The trio’s faces are superimposed onto the characters, each striking a unique and amusing expression.
“By the order of the cheeky blinders 😎,” Gill captioned the post.
India suffered a five-wicket defeat in the first Test, with England successfully chasing a target of 371 runs on the final day in Leeds. The hosts now lead the series 1-0, with four matches still to play. As a result, Shubman Gill’s debut as India’s Test captain didn’t go as hoped. He and the team will be eager to stage a comeback in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Shubman Gill And Team Face Key Decisions Ahead Of Second Test
Following their loss in the first Test, Shubman Gill and his team have several areas to reassess. Despite finding themselves in promising positions during both innings, India faltered with the bat and failed to capitalize, missing chances to post more competitive totals.
Fielding was another concern, with multiple dropped catches across both innings proving costly. In the bowling department, apart from Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive five-wicket haul in the first innings, none of the other bowlers managed to pose a consistent threat.
Bumrah is likely to miss the second Test due to workload management, prompting India to rethink their strategy and lineup after the first Test loss. On the positive side, Gill impressed with a century in his debut as Test captain, scoring 147 runs.
