The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced Siddhartha Bank as the title sponsor for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) T20 tournament in a landmark five-year deal. Although the financial details remain undisclosed, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka highlighted that this sponsorship represents the highest-ever investment in Nepali sports history. Siddhartha Bank, one of Nepal’s largest private commercial banks, has now become a vital supporter of the country’s cricketing ambitions.
Additionally, CAN revealed that Star Sports Network, the Indian sports broadcasting giant, will serve as the official broadcaster for the NPL. Star Sports is known for airing premier cricketing events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), ICC tournaments, and other global sports events.
NPL’s Schedule and Teams
The inaugural edition of the Nepal Premier League will take place at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur from November 30 to December 21. However, no matches are scheduled for December 1 due to by-elections in Kirtipur, as requested by the local government.
The eight participating teams represent various provinces: Kathmandu Gurkhas, Chitwan Rhinos, Biratnagar Kings, Janakpur Bolts, Pokhara Avengers, Karnali Yaks, Lumbini Lions, and Sudurpashchim Royals. Fixtures for the league will be unveiled shortly as CAN coordinates with local authorities.
Building Nepal’s Cricketing Legacy
The Nepal Premier League is a significant step in elevating Nepal’s cricket profile on the global stage. The participation of major sponsors like Siddhartha Bank and broadcasters such as Star Sports reflects the growing recognition of Nepali cricket. The league not only promises high-quality competition among provincial teams but also fosters opportunities for players to showcase their talent. CAN’s efforts to organize the NPL aim to attract global attention while inspiring domestic players and fans alike.
As the cricketing calendar gains momentum, the NPL is poised to become a premier sports event in Nepal, paving the way for further development and investments in the sport.
