Sikandar Raza Silences Reporter With Sharp Reply On ‘Asia’s Best Team’ Debate

Raza’s Composed Response to a Provocative Question. At the pre-series press conference of the Pakistan–Zimbabwe–Sri Lanka T20 tri-series, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza found himself confronted with a tricky question that was clearly designed to stir debate. A Pakistani reporter asked him to identify the best and second-best T20 teams in Asia, a topic that had already sparked major controversy among fans following the Asia Cup 2025.

Raza, however, remained composed and delivered a reply that instantly drew admiration across social media. The original debate had resurfaced when Afghanistan publicly referred to itself as the second-best team in Asia behind India, a claim that enraged many Pakistan supporters. The reporter attempted to reignite that discussion during the press conference, hoping to elicit a headline-worthy answer.

He asked, “There is a debate going on on social media. I need an honest opinion from you. Who is the second-best and best T20 team in Asia? From Sikandar’s point of view, is Zimbabwe playing the second-best or the third-best Asian teams in this tri-series?” Instead of engaging, Raza shifted the focus back to his team.

Steering The Conversation Back To Zimbabwe

Steering the Conversation Back to Zimbabwe, Raza chose not to participate in the regional ranking debate and emphasised the importance of national responsibility. His response, delivered with clarity and respect, immediately went viral. He stated, “Since I am in a national jersey, all I will tell you is that Zimbabwe are the second-best team in Africa. I don’t care who the first or second-best team in Asia is. I’ll address that when I am not in national colours. Right now, my focus is on my team.”

He further added :

“This is a press conference for the Zimbabwe captain, so I should answer questions about Zimbabwe. I personally don’t care who the first, second, third or fourth-best team in Asia is. We’re the second-best team in Africa and we’re looking to build on that. We’re trying to challenge the best team in Africa.” Fans appreciated how he maintained professionalism while subtly dismissing an attempt to provoke controversy.

Pakistan Claims The Opening Win

Pakistan claimed an Opening Win Despite the viral exchange, the attention soon shifted to on-field action. The tri-series opener concluded with Pakistan securing a five-wicket win while chasing Zimbabwe’s target of 148 runs. Although Pakistan’s captain-in-waiting, Babar Azam, hoped to make an impact in the shortest format, he was dismissed for a three-ball duck. Nevertheless, Salman Agha’s leadership and the team’s composed chase ensured Pakistan began the series on a positive note.
