Indian opener KL Rahul notched up his seventh Test ton and his first Boxing-Day hundred in the first Test at Centurion. He has been the pillar of the Indian batting line-up so far after fall of quick wickets after the initial stand. Earlier in the day, India won the toss and opted to bat first.
KL Rahul added a 117-run stand with Mayank Agarwal (60) for the first wicket. India then lost two wickets at that score as Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara (0) was picked up by Lungi Ngidi of back to back deliveries.

Rahul then added another 82 runs with skipper Virat Kohli (35) who threw his wickets away after looking set for a big score. Kohli’s elusive 71st international ton thus stays adrift at the moment.

The Protean pacers and especially Ngidi has been on the money but Rahul has worked his way through all of them. This is his second ton in 2021 with him having scored one previously against England.

Rahul also joined two Indian batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and present Indian Test captain Virat Kohli in an elite list to become the third batter from his country to score a century in South Africa’s citadel, and 11th overall.
Rahul now has a century in all the countries he has played in – two in England and one each in Australia, India, Sri Lanka. West Indies and now South Africa.
